I purchased Samplitude Pro back in late 1999 for $349, back when they used a non-copyable authorization floppy to register the install. My floppy went bad, and had to get another one to install my software on my new computer. I found out that Magix had taken over Sek'd.

The U.S. distributors hemmed and hawed and sent me over to Germany. Joerg Schelinksi's answer was for me to repurchase my software for $399. From his email, "please note that Magix is not responsible for the floppy problems of SEK`D products Magix hasn`t bought anything from SEK`D after their bancrupty."

Of course, this is a joke because Magix did get the old code. Buying a company out of bankruptcy is not a license to take advantage of old customers -- in fact that's about the worst thing any company could do to professionals. I was told by a distributor that Apple is involved in this -- which could be a part of the problem.

Their new version is same as my software but with a few added features. They have the code to replace my "floppy dongle" someplace, they just don't feel like doing what any responsible company would do. Magix has locked me out of my software and they want me to repurchase it for another $399 !! Some might even call what they are doing a "scam".

Audio-wise, the new version of Samplititude Pro has approximately the same functionalities as my current software. I don't need video or the other control-surface toys they added (which don't seem to justify the quadrupling of the price since they bought out Sek'd).

Samplitude is great software, but in my opinion, I cannot recommend purchasing anything from a greedy company that adamantly refuses to support its customers and instead leverages to take advantage of them.

Sampliude is one of the more professional looking daw's around. if the look doesnt impress u much then you might be looking for another fancy daw's out there. While the initial look remembered me of protools like simplicity what took my breadth away was its way tht it works. its absolute delight to work in the daw. the way the plugins implemented to the track(via the plugins window) and the concept of switching either midi or audio in the same track is a great idea. the elastic audio is a great new tool which is great for pitch shifting and correction. with ability to write ur final tracks to cd or dvd-a inside the daw is another feather in the hat.
overall a great daw which is very professional and an enjoyable daw. support is superb with replies within the same working day. only slight draw back may be a slow learning curve for few and a bit pricy.
